After years of being stuck, the national conversation on climate change finally started to shift — just a little — last year, the hottest year on record in the U.S., with Hurricane Sandy flooding the New York subway, drought devastating Midwest farms, and California and Colorado on fire.
This TAL on Climate Change is so, so infuriating. The truth is, the anti-science conservatives in this country will tune out any evidence that you present them. No matter what happens, you’ll never change their minds. They don’t think rationally. When climate change becomes worse and worse, they’ll just keep blindly claiming that it’s natural, or God’s punishment for gayness or some shit. They never, never admit that they could have done something to offset what’s happening. Even if we DO manage to offset the effects of climate change to any degree, they’ll just say “See? You were wrong! It’s not that bad!” The horrible thing is, Americans are not the people that will suffer the most. Poor countries will suffer, they will blame us, and they will be justified in doing so. It’s time that we point blame at the people who continuously block climate-change legislation. I want a website that lists names of politicians. Thirty years from now, if they’re still alive, we can put them on trial for crimes against humanity. They need to be held responsible.
I really feel like this video, and the song, perfectly encapsulates American pop culture in the ’80s. Also, Gene Simmons unchanging facial expression never fails to make me giggle.
Wow.
d-dh:
just look at the awesome moth it turns into
That is not an awesome moth it’s a fucking demon from my nightmares
Shush you, it’s pretty. A Flufferfly.
I am the Lorax
I speak for the trees
I can’t even tell which side its’ head is on.
It’s like a diamond decided to turn into a fluffy Dorito.

Super Moon
— June 23, 2013
Be sure to look out for the Moon these next few months as it approaches Perigee, because the full moons during these times will appear exceptionally large. The Moon will be at its Perigee, or closest approach, in July 23 and it will reach full moon only a few minutes after it passes this point in its orbit.
These ‘super moons’ not only appear larger because they are physically closer but, combined with a full moon, the mind can play tricks on you to think they are much larger. This phenomena is called the Moon Illusion. Try to catch these full moons as they rise/set because the illusion works when there is an object in the foreground, like a tree, building or mountains.
The whole soundtrack for this film is wonderful, but Mann Mohana is really beautiful. The full song, with lyrics, is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG0bLVj1Jk8
Definitely intrigued to see Anurag Kashyap’s “Ugly.” Seems to be getting a lot of attention at Cannes. I wonder if it’s because it’s really good, or because arty film critics love anything that’s “dark.”
I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS ANIMAL. IT IS INSANE. GOOD JOB, ZE FRANK.
